    11 Corinthians 4:7-12 (#11)

    I. God Allows His Pots To be Cracked

Paul lists 3 possible pressures for cracking:

    1. Personal pressure
“we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed”

afflicted- means to be confined on every side

“we are afflicted in every way but not crushed”

Afflicted – secondary meaning to be ruined in business & left with nothing

“though he slay me, yet will I hope in him” ~ Job 13:15

    2. Personal persecution Paul wrote, “persecuted, but not forsaken”

Persecution- here refers to the practice of hunters tracking down an animal.

PRIME MINISTER OF ENGLAND SIR, WINSTON CHURCHILL had the words on his desk; ‘if I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might well be closed for any other business. I do the very best I know how – the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right what’s said against me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, 10 angels swearing I was right would make no difference.”

    3. Personal failure “struck down but not destroyed”

Struck down - came for the gladiatorial games when a fighter had been pinned by his opponent waiting for the thumbs up or thumbs down signal.

II. God Has A Purpose In Your Plan

“we were under just great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure…this happened that we might not rely upon ourselves but on God…..” 2 Corinthians 1:8-9

God Can Still Use Broken Clay Pots

    11 Corinthians 4:6-7
    #10 in series

    I. Believers Are Like Clay Jars

Jars of clay – literally means earthenware. Describes ordinary, plain pots

“We are the clay, you are the Potter. We are all the work of your hand.” ~ Isaiah 64:8

Earthenvessels - created to contain something, not to be a design unto themselves

II. Christianity Is Containing Not Imitating Jesus

III. God Delights In Using Imperfect Vessels

“Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world, the despised things – and the things that are not – to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.”
    ~ 1 Corinthians 1:26-29

“If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That is to prevent anyone from confusing God’s incomparable power with us.”
    ~ 2 Corinthians 4:7 - Message

    bond-servant- the lowest slave

III. Remember It Is Jesus Who Uses Clay Vessels

verse 7, ''But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing greatness of the power may be of God and not from ourselves.''

CHRISTIAN IS NOT ALWAYS A DISCIPLE

    I. Salvation by Grace Through Faith Results In Our Lives Being Transformed

How To Locate A Pastor Called By God

    2 Corinthians 3:1-6

11 Corinthians 3:1- Paul says, ''Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, as some, letters of commendation to you or from you? You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men; being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human hearts. And such confidence we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter, but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

    I. Under Leadership We Will Find Lives Change

    11. Under Leadership Lives Totally Dependant on Jesus Christ

Vs 5''Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God...''

Vs 2 ''You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men; being manifested that you are a letter of Christ cared for by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human hearts.''

Matthew 28:1-10 ''Now after the Sabbath as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave. And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of t he Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. And his appearance was like lightning and his garment as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. And the angel answered and said to the women, Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and, behold, He is going before you into Galilee. There you will see Him. Behold I have told you. And they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy and ran to report it to His disciples. And, behold (there's our word again. Wow, can you believe it?), behold, Jesus met them and greeted them, and they came up and took hold of His feet and worshipped Him. Then Jesus said to them, Do not be afraid. Go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee and there they shall see Me.'' I. Jesus Christ Is Risen Jesus Christ is risen and He's risen indeed. vs 6 "He is not here, for He has risen just as He said.'' ''The resurrection is the most indisputable fact in all of history.'' II. We Worship A Victorious Savior Who Will One Day Rule

    2 Corinthians 2:12-17 #6 in series
''Who although,'' Philippians 2, ''He existed in the form of God did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bondservant. And being made in the likeness of men, and being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore, also God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should be, those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth. And that every tongue should
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.''

    Beware Of Lion Danger Ahead

    Ignorant-, to not know.

Paul writes the 4th letter 11 Corinthians

vs 1''But I determined this for my own sake, that I would not come to you in sorrow again. For if I cause you sorrow, who then makes me glad but the one whom I made sorrowful? This is the very thing I wrote you, so that when I came, I would have not sorrow from those who ought to make me rejoice; having confidence in you all that my joy would be the joy of you all. For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears; not so that you would be made sorrowful, but that you might know the love which I have especially for you. But if any has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow not to me, but in some degree - in order not to say too much - to all of you.''

''Sufficient for such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the majority, so that on the contrary you should rather forgive and comfort him, otherwise such a one might be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. Wherefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him. For to this end also I wrote, so that I might put you to the test, whether you are obedient in all things.''

    I. We Must Handle Sin In Our Lives Immediately

II. We Must Forgive and Restore Others

You Can Trust The Promises God Makes To Us

    2 Corinthians 1:18-24

chp 1:18 ''But as God is faithful, our word to you is not yes and no. For the Son of God, Christ Jesus, who was preached among you by us - by me and Silvanus and Timothy - was not yes and no, but is yes in Him. For as many as may be the promises of God, in Him they are yes; wherefore also through, by Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us. Now He who established us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge. But I call God as my witness to my soul, that to spare you I came no more to Corinth. Not that we lord it over your faith, but are workers with you for your joy, for in your faith you are standing firm.''

chp 2: 1, ''But I determined this for my own sake, that I would not come to you in sorrow again.''

''The reason I didn't come to you, and the reason that my plans got changed, is because I didn't want to come and have another sorrowful meeting with you,''

Then I will rebuke the devourer from you. And I'm going to do these great things if you'll bring the whole tithe into the storehouse.''

Philippians 4:19 ''And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.''

Matthew 6:33 ''And seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.''
