I.  ARE YOU AN ENCOURAGER?
“So when we could stand it no longer, we thought it would be best to be left by ourselves in Athens. We send Timothy, who is our brother and God’s fellow worker is spreading the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, so that no one would be unsettled by these trails. You know quite well that we were destined for them. In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be persecuted. As it turned out that way, as you well know. For this reason, when I could stand it no longer, I sent to find our about your faith. I was afraid that is some way the tempter might have tempted you and out efforts might have been useless. Bu Timothy has just now come to us from you and has brought good news about your faith & love. He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we long to see you. Therefore, brothers, in all our distress and persecution we were encouraged about you because of your faith. For now we really life, since you are standing firm in the Lord. How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you? Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you again and supply what is lacking in your faith.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 3:1-10

God Has A Plan For Your Life
*Never give up! Rather choose to live in hope* Genesis 37:5-11, -44, 39:1-23

''For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus FOR GOOD WORKS, which GOD PREPARED BEFOREHAND, that we should walk in them.''

Jeremiah 29:11 ''I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.''

Joseph and his dreams introduced in chapter 37.

That means that the last 13 chapters of Genesis (1/4 of the book) were dedicated to Joseph's life.
It was because of Joseph that his family moved down to Egypt.

It was because of Joseph that they were given an isolated section of Egypt to live in.

It was by God's design that Israel was placed in land of Goshen

It was an isolated and out of the way location for Israel to raise their flocks and herds.

It was as if God placed them safely behind the walls of Egypt's power.

It was a place where no other nation could attack them, a place where no other government or religion could influence them.

Israel was even isolated from the influence of Egypt itself because Egyptians were vegetarians and the despised the Israelites because they ate meat. (Genesis 46:34)

There are people out there who are called ''prosperity preachers.''
Prosperity preachers teach their followers - if you are spiritual enough - God will supply all your needs and you will become healthy, wealthy and wise beyond all imagination.

The flip side of that teaching is that if you are not spiritual enough, you will be sickly, poor and not too bright.
Prosperity preachers are heretics. They are false teachers.
''...we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame...'' Romans 5:3-5

''... whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.'' ~ Romans 15:4
And it was in that secluded and protected land God grew the people of Israel into a mighty nation with a potential army of over million who would then be powerful enough to take the Promised Land.

The Beauty Of Unity and Generosity
    Acts 2:42-47

“They devoted themselves to the Apostles teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved”

I,. Protect The Unity of The Church

“How good and pleasant it is when the church dwells together in unity” Psalm 133

The night before Jesus was crucified He prayed specifically in John 17 “I don’t pray for these disciples alone, but for everyone who will believe because of their testimony”. He is talking to believers

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Holy Spirit through the bond of peace” - Ephesians 4:3

Keep - a word picture of a Roman solider on sentry duty and guarding something valuable.

II. We are to share our financial blessings

Note the members of the church were “selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone who had a need”

2 Corinthians 9:7 “God loves a cheerful giver”

Cheerful - translated into the language of today is “hilarious”

God speaks to that “You may say to yourself, ‘ my power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” ~ Deuteronomy 8:17

“The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it” ~Psalm 24:1

Give and it shall be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with measure you use, it will be measured to you. ~ Luke 6:38

Looking For Spiritually Alive Believers For Local Church
    2 Corinthians 13:1-6

Vs 5, ''Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you - unless, indeed, you fail the test? But I trust that you will realize that we ourselves do not fail the test.''
    I. Do You Have Strong Faith?

Vs 5”Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourself regular checkups.” The Message

    11 Corinthians 13: 1-4 (New Living translation),
''This is the third time I am coming to visit you. And as the Scriptures say, the facts of every case must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. I have already warned those who have been sinning when I was there on my second visit. Now I again warn them and all others, just as I did before, that next time I will not spare them.''
''I will give you all the proof you want that Christ speaks through me. Christ is not weak when He deals with you. He is powerful among you. Although he was crucified in weakness, He now lives by the power of God. We, too, are weak, just as Christ was, but when we deal with you, we will be alive with Him and will have God's power.''

2 Corinthians 12: 21, ''I'm afraid that when I come my God may humiliate me before you, and I may mourn over many of those who have sinned in the past and have not repented."
''When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long, For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me. My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. Selah.'' ~ Psalm 32

''Your hand was on me day and night, and it was crushing the life out of me,''

'I acknowledge my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide. I said I will confess my transgressions to the LORD, and You forgave the guilt of my sin.'' ~Psalm 51

What Is The Difference Between Phony and Real Believers?
    2 Corinthians 12:11-21
    I. A Real Christian Knows Only Jesus Is Important

Chp 12:11 ''I have become foolish; you yourselves compelled me'' ''Actually I should have been commended by you, for in no respect was I inferior to the most eminent apostles, even though I am a nobody. The signs of a true apostle were performed among you with all perseverance by signs and wonders and miracles.''

Galatians 6:3, ''For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.''

Romans 1:1, ''Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God.''

    II. God Teaches His Children

    Vs 19

By meeting our needs when we are helpless
By making us wait before He meets our needs
By stretching us beyond the realm of the familiar
By taking us through the consequences of wrong choices
By allowing us to fail By permitting pain and suffering
By sending us into the path of difficult people

III. There Is A Strong Passion To Help People Mature Out Of Selfish Behavior In The Church

Paul wrote ''All this time you've been thinking that we are defending ourselves to you. Actually, it is in the sight of God that we have been speaking in Christ'' And why? ''and all this for your upbuilding, beloved.''

How Do You Handle A Thorn In The Flesh?
2 Corinthians 12:7-10 ''And because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this, I entreated the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He has said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.' Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore, I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong” I. Thorns and Suffering Are A Part Of Life buffet – to strike with a fist – a lot of pain II. Believers Respond To Suffering In Different Ways ''See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God, that no root of bitterness springing up causes troubles, and by it many be defiled.'' ~ Hebrews 12:15 God answered him AFTER 3RD PRAYER ''Paul, My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.'' Paul replied to God vs 10, ''Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.'' III. God Has A Purpose For Your Thorn Vs 7 keep me from exalting myself- Song: He Giveth More Grace ''He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater, He sendeth more strength when the labors increase; To added afflictions, He added His mercy, To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace. When we have exhausted our store of endurance, When our strength has failed, 'ere the day is half done; When we reach the end of our horded resources, Our Father's full giving has only begun. Fear not that thy needs shall exceed His provision, Our God ever yearns His resources to share; Lean hard on the arm everlasting availing, The Father, both thee and thy load, will upbear. His love has no limits; His grace has no measure, His power has no boundary known unto men. For out of His infinite riches in Jesus, He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.''

What The Bible Says About Heaven
    11 Corinthians 12:1-7

“I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. I know a man in Christ who 14 years ago was caught up in the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body, I do not know, but God knows-was caught up in paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell. I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses. Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say. To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.”
    I. We Will Have A New Body “We know that when these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they will be replaced by resurrection bodies in heaven – God made, not handmade. Sometimes we can hardly wait to move – and so we cry out in frustration. Compared to what’s coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we are tired of it! We’ve been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies! (2 Corinthians 5: 1-4 Message)

II. We Will Have A Physical Part In Our New Body
“Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” (Luke 24:39)
III. We Will Eat In Heaven
“Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb” (Revelation 19:9)

IV. We Will Make New Friends With Bible Characters

“Many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.” ~ Matthew 8:11

    V. We Will Be Reunited With Our Family

“and there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.” ~ Mark 9:4
VI. We Will Not Miss Some Things

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…the city does not need the sun or the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God gives it light…on no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there….nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” ~ Revelation 21: 4, 23,25,27

VII. We Shall See Jesus “Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am known.” ~ 1 Corinthians 13:12

The Devil’s Apostles Inside The Church
    2 Corinthians 11:16-31

Vs 16 ''They're servants of Satan. They disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, but they're really servants of Satan. That's how Satan does it. He disguises himself as an angel of light.''

''Again I say, let no one think me foolish; but if you do, receive me even as foolish that I also may boast a little.''

    I. A God-Called Minister Doesn’t Mistreat People

vs 20 ''For you bear with anyone if he enslaves you If you're true, and if you're genuine, you don't enslave people. You say, ''What does that mean, to enslave the people?'' Well, we don't know for certain, but these people were probably part of the Judaizers. And the Judaizers mixed grace and Law. And so there could be an idea that Paul is communicating here that they were putting you under the Law. They were putting you under the yoke of slavery to the Law; that you had to do these things in the Mosaic Law. And you couple that with Christianity, and that's how you please God, and that's how you're saved. And so it could be they're trying to enslave them with the Law. But it also could be, and it's a mark of any false teacher, that you try and attach the people to yourself; that they become your slaves, so to speak; that you exhibit control over them.
II. God-Called Ministers Do Not Take Financial Advantage of The Church

''For you bear with anyone if he enslaves you, if he devours you, if he takes advantage of you''
    Devour- means to eat up,

III. God-Called Ministers Do Not Promote Self

“if he takes advantage of you”
Vs 20 “If he exalts himself, if he hits you in the face”
''I will show him how much he must suffer for My name's sake.''

''But God has called me, and there's going to be physical suffering."
vs 27, ''I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.''

    God teaches us through suffering.

The Devil’s Apostles Inside The Church
2 Corinthians 11:5-15 "Now Jesus prayed all night before He chose His twelve apostles, " Why did Jesus choose Judas? Jesus said John 6, “Did I not Myself choose you, the twelve, yet one of you is a devil?” Now persecution is designed to root the church out. Infiltration is designed to rot the church out. I. God Uses Former Sinners Vs 5 “For I consider myself not in the least inferior to the most eminent apostles.” “I invited other churches, taking wages from them to serve you. And when I was present with you and was in need, I was not a burden to anyone; for when the brethren came from Macedonia they fully supplied my need, and in everything I kept myself from being a burden to you, and will continue to do so." “The laborer is worthy of his wages. And let the one who preaches the Word, he's worthy of double honor, both honor financially and honor in terms of respect, honor and honorarium.” II. Characteristics Of False Teachers Characteristic number one: They come in disguise. Characteristic number two: They come in pride selfishness. vs 7 "Did I commit a sin in humbling myself that You might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you without charge." Characteristic number three: They come in greed. “False prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.” - 11 Peter 2:3 “Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such you shall incur a stricter judgment.”
