Becoming The Person God Can Use

2 Timothy 2:19-22

“God knows who belongs to him. Spurn evil, all you who name God as God.  In a well-furnished kitchen there are not only crystal goblets and silver platters, but waste cans and compost buckets – some containers used to serve fine meals, others to take out the garbage.  Become the kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to his guests for their blessing.  Run away from infantile indulgence. Run after mature righteousness – faith – love – peace – joining those who are honest and serious prayer before God. Refuse to get involved in inane discussions; they always end up in fights. God’s servant must not be argumentative, but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool, working firmly but patiently with those who refuse to obey.  You never know how or when God might sober them up with a change of heart and a turning to the truth, enabling them to escape the devil’s trap, where they are caught and held captive, forced to run his errands.” 2 Timothy 2: 19-22 (The Message)

vs 21 “Become the kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to his guests for their blessing.”

I. Determine To Be A Vessel of Honors

vs 20 “In a well-furnished kitchen there are not only crystal goblets and silver platters, but waste cans and compost buckets – some containers used to serve fine meals, others to take out the garbage.”

How do I choose to be a vessel of honor?

First of all, you have to run away from dishonorable activities.

Verse 19 “Spurn evil, all you who name God as God.”

Spurn – means to abstain – depart – desist

Evil – means moral wrongfulness

Secondly, to distance  yourself from dishonorable people

Third: Be diligent to study scripture.

vs 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth.

II. When You Do Sin Confess To God Immediately

1 John 1: 8-10 “If we claim that we are free of sin, we are only fooling ourselves. A claim like that is errant nonsense. On the other hand, if we admit our sins – make a clean breast of them – he won’t let us down; he will be true to himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrong doing. If we claim that we have never sinned, we out-and-out contradict God – make a liar out of him. A claim like that only shows off our ignorance of God.”

Learning To Use The Power of Scripture
    Series: (All)
“Repeat these basic essentials over and over to God’s people. Warn them against pious nitpicking, which chips away at the faith. It just wears everyone out. Concentrate on doing your best for God, work you won’t be ashamed of, laying out the truth plain and simple. Stay clear of pious talk that is only talk. Words are not mere words, you know.  Of they’re not backed by a godly life, they accumulate as poison in the soul. Hymenaeus and Philetus are examples, throwing believers off stride and missing the truth by a mile by saying the resurrection is over and done with.  Meanwhile, God’s firm foundation is as firm as ever, these sentences engraved on the stones: God knows who belongs to Him. Spurn evil, all you who name God as God.” ~ 2 Timothy 2:14-19

    I. Discipline Yourself To Study The Scripture

2 Timothy 2:15 “Concentrate on doing your best for God…..lay out the truth plain and simple”

    Concentrate-means to be diligent

Was Palm Sunday A Tragedy or Triumph?
    John 12:12-19

“On the next day a large crowd who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, ‘Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.’

Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written, coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.  These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things to Him.

So the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him.  For this reason also the people went and met Him, because they heard that He had performed this sign.  So the Pharisees said to one another, ‘You see that you are not doing any good: look, the world has gone after Him.” ~ John 12:12-19

    I. The Chief Priests and the Pharisees

We find in Matthew 26:3-4 “then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priests, whose name was Caiaphas, and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and to kill him”

Caiaphas is recorded in John 11 of saying, “it is better for one to die than for the whole Nation to perish. So from that day, they plotted to take the life of Jesus.”

II. Ordinary Jewish Worshippers of the Law

III. You and I Also Put Jesus Christ on The Cross

Isaiah 53:5-6 “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

“For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son that whosoever might believe in Him might not perish but have everlasting life.” ~John 3:16

“when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son” ~ Romans 5:10

“the lamb of God was slain from the creation of the world” ~ Revelation 13:8

What Are You Pouring Into Your Mind?

    2 Timothy2: 6-13

Series: Final Words of Apostle Paul

“These are the kind of people who smooth-talk themselves into the homes of the unstable and needy women and take advantage of them; women who depressed by their sinfulness, take up with every new religious fad that calls itself truth. They get exploited every time and never really learn.  These men are those old Egyptians frauds Jannes and Jambres, who challenged Moses.  They were rejects from the faith, twisted in their thinking, defying truth itself.  But nothing will come of these latest imposters.  Everyone will see through them, just as people saw through that Egyptian hoax. You have been a good apprentice to me, a part of my teaching, my manner of life, direction, faith, steadiness, love, patience, troubles, sufferings – suffering along with me in all the grief I had to put up with in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. And you also well know that God rescued me!  Anyone who wants to live all out for Christ is in for a lot of trouble; there is no getting around it.  Unscrupulous con men will continue to exploit the faith. They are as deceived as the people they lead astray.  As long as they are out there, things can only get worse.”

    I. Remember Jesus Christ Has Already Won

II. Remember The Life Of A Believer Will Never Be Easy

Acts 14 Paul said, through many tribulations we must Endure to enter the kingdom of God. He never said it would be easy to be a believer

Jesus said, “Do not be surprised if the world hates you. Know that it hated me before it hated you” ~John 15:18

Revelation 2:10 “Be faithful unto death and I will Give you the crown of life”

III. There Are Rewards For The Faithful

“Behold I come quickly(suddenly), and my reward Is with me to render to every one according to Your deeds.”

How To Live A Life That Is Pleasing To God
    2 Timothy 2

    I. Understand and Trust in God’s Grace

Grace - that undeserved – unmerited favor of God

1:9 ”anchor your life in the Lord’s sovereign grace”

2:1 “be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus”

strong - means to be increasing in strength continue to grow in grace

grace - means unmerited & undeserved

GRACE IS WHAT CONNECTS US TO GOD

II. You Must Have The Heart Of A Learner

vs 2 “and the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, teach these
    to others….”

Disciple - means to be a learner

    111. You Must Understand As A Believer You Will Face Challenges

vs 3 “Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Jesus, of Christ Jesus. No solider in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted Him as a soldier.”

VS 7 “Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything”

How To Have A Strong Spiritual Life
    2 Timothy 1: 1-11

PAUL CLOSES OUT THIS LETTER WITH THESE WORDS:
“I KNOW THAT I AM GETTING READY TO DIE I HAVE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT I HAVE FINISHED THE COURSE I HAVE RUN THE RACE”

“I, Paul, an apostle on special assignment from Christ, our living hope. Under God our Savior’s command, I‘m writing this to you, Timothy, my son in the faith. All the best from our God and Christ to yours!

On my way to the province of Macedonia, I advised you to stay in Ephesus. Well, I have not changed my mind. Stay right there on top of things so that the teaching stays on tract. Apparently, some people have been introducing fantasy stories and fanciful family trees that digress into silliness instead of pulling the people back into the center, deepening faith and obedience.

The whole point of what we are urging is love people uncontaminated by self-interest and counter faith, a life open to God. Those who fail to keep to this point soon wander off into cul-de-sacs of gossip. They set themselves up as experts on religious issues but have not the remotest idea of what they are holding forth with such imposing eloquence.

I KNOW THAT IN MY FUTURE THERE IS LAID UP A CROWN FOR ME OF RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH THE LORD WILL AWARD TO ME ON THAT DAY AND NOT ONLY TO ME TO BUT ALL THOSE WHO LOOK FORWARD TO HIS APPEARING

It is true that moral guidance and counsel needs to be given, but the way you say it are as important as important as what you say.

It is obvious, is not it, that the law code is not primarily for people who live responsibly, but for the irresponsible, who defy all authority, riding roughshod over God. They are contemptuous of this great Message I’ve been put in charge of by this great God.”

There are some principles upon which we are to build our lives:

    (1) DEVELOP A SPIRIT OF GRATITUDE AND THANKSGIVING

    GRACE-MERCY-PEACE

Grace - the unmerited favor of god’s providing forgiveness and justification.

Mercy – the inexpressible blessing of deliverance from the misery that sin deserves and creates in our lives.

Peace - the inner tranquility produced by divine grace and mercy. Paul wanted Timothy to have the best God had to offer.

    Secondly, talk with God regularly.

Vs 3 “I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my forefathers did, as I constantly remember you in my prayers day and night.

Luke 18:1 Scripture teaches from the words of Jesus we must always be praying, and we must not give up!

Third, Discover and Use your spiritual gift

Vs 6 “and for this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of hands”

1 Peter 4:10 “Be generous with the spiritual gifts God gave you, using them and do it God’s way.”

Fourth and Final Principle for having a strong spirit-filled life.

Vs 7 “God has not given us the spirit of fear; he has given us power. He has given us love. He has given us discipline.”

We are experiencing some difficult times in our nation

THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO BE ASHAMED OF JESUS SUFFERING FOR JESUS TAKING A STAND FOR JESUS IS HEADED THIS WAY IN AMERICA. WHEN THE TIME COMES IN YOUR LIFE I HOPE YOU WILL STAND FOR HIM!
