I. Christmas Is About Jesus Our Savior

"Do not be afraid, for, behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people, for today, in the city of David, there has been born for you a Savior who is Christ the Lord."English word mega - megabyte, megaphone, megaton

great a Greek word which means, M-E-G-A-S.

1 Timothy 1, "It's a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners among whom I am chief. I am foremost of all. I'm the worst sinner of all. And He loved me and delivered Himself up for me."

II. Wisemen Came To Worship The Christ Child

Many scholars believe the wiseman traveled over 1,000 miles to arrive at Jerusalem

Luke 2:17-18 “When the shepherds had seen Jesus, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them”

“God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things-and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him” ~ 1 Corinthians 2:27-29

Matthew 2: Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, wisemen from the east arrived in Jerusalem saying, where is he who was born King of the Jews? We have seen his star in the east and have come to worship him. Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They said to him, In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet……then Herod secretly called the wisemen and determined from them the exact time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, Go and search carefully for the child and when you have found him, report to me, so that I too may come and worship him.”

Exodus 23:20  “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared”

Psalm 91:11 “for he will give his angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.”

All over the Bible are examples of angels protecting God’s people from harm

Perhaps one of the best known examples

Story of Daniel in the lions den (Daniel 6)

Psalm 91 contains a powerful promise for the believer of God
“For God will command his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. The angels hands will bear you up, so that you do not strike your foot against a stone.” Vs 11-12
John 14:3 “I will come again, and take you to myself, that where I am you may be also”

How To Develop An Attitude of Thankfulness

    Colossians 3: 15-17

Vs 12 “we are chosen by God for this kind of behavior, attitudes”

Compassion – means to feel with, empathy, sympathy with those who are hurting.
    Opposite is being hard-hearted

Kindness- means grace in action. Kindness moves from the heart out to the hands
Doing something motivated out of love for God to help others

III. We Are To Be Humble

Humility – often used to describe one who bows down before others
One who thinks of others before thinking of oneself
Not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less
“Humble yourself before the Lord and He will lift us up”

IV. We Are To Be Have Quiet Strength

Quiet strength – humble, to display strength under control. Meekness
Willing to suffer injury instead of inflicting it

    V. We Are To Have Discipline
Discipline- means to have patience. This word does not mean waiting on something
Means long suffering, the opposite of short tempered.
“When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.” ~ 1 Peter 2:23

VI. We Are To Practice Forgiveness
    Vs 13

Bible says, “Bear with one another and forgive whatever grievances you may have
    Against one another”
“God demonstrated his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us” ~ Romans 5:8

VII. We Are To Have Godly Love
    Vs 14

We find God’s definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13 when he tells us
    “love always protects”
    “love is kind”
    “love does not boast”
    “love is not rude”
    “love is patient”
“love keeps no record of wrongs”

VII. We Are To Have An Attitude of Thankfulness

“Let every detail in your lives – words, actions, whatever – be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.”

III. Worship Is An Act of Sacrifice

“But one of the disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor?  It was worth a year’s wages.  He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.”  ~ John 12: 4-6

Worship is all about giving something to God
