    I. Angels May Give A Motivational Message

DENIAL OF A TRUTH DOES NOT CHANGE A TRUTH

Disciples are directed to speak to unbelieversActs 8:26”Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, ‘Go south to the road – the   desert road – that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza”Vs 29 “The Spirit told Philip”

Acts 8: 30-31,35 “Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isiah the prophet. ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ Philip asked. ‘How can I,’ he said, ‘unless someone explains it to me?’ So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. The man read from the book of Isaiah….then Philip began at that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.”

Spirit- may be Holy Spirit or could be the angel

    Acts 10: 1-2 NASV

“a centurion of what was called the Italian cohort”

Roman legion consisted of 6,000 men – divided into 10 cohorts

    600 men in each

“a devout man, and one who feared God with all his household and gave many alms to the Jewish people, and prayed to God continually.

II. Angels Often Appear At Night With A Message From God

III.Angels Message From God Is Often One of Encouragement

Vs 22 “But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed.”

Vs 23-24 “last night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve stood beside me and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar: and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’ So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me. Neverless, we must run aground on some island.”

    1. Be aware angels are all around us
    1. Pray for the protection of angels
    1. Be kind to strangers

    The Birth of Christ

    Matthew 2:1-12

    I. Christmas Is About Jesus Our Savior

"Do not be afraid, for, behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people, for today, in the city of David, there has been born for you a Savior who is Christ the Lord."English word mega - megabyte, megaphone, megaton

great a Greek word which means, M-E-G-A-S.

1 Timothy 1, "It's a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners among whom I am chief. I am foremost of all. I'm the worst sinner of all. And He loved me and delivered Himself up for me."

II. Wisemen Came To Worship The Christ Child

Many scholars believe the wiseman traveled over 1,000 miles to arrive at Jerusalem

Luke 2:17-18 “When the shepherds had seen Jesus, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them”

“God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things-and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him” ~ 1 Corinthians 2:27-29

Matthew 2: Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, wisemen from the east arrived in Jerusalem saying, where is he who was born King of the Jews? We have seen his star in the east and have come to worship him. Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They said to him, In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet……then Herod secretly called the wisemen and determined from them the exact time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, Go and search carefully for the child and when you have found him, report to me, so that I too may come and worship him.”

    I. Angels Are God’s Messengers

Angel – means messenger from God

Angelos is sometimes used in scripture to refer to human messengers

1 Peter 1:12 “Even angels long to look into the things

II. Angels Are God’s Ministering Spirits To His Children

1 Kings 19:5 “Elijah laid down under the tree and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, ‘Get up and eat!’”

Exodus 23:20  “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared”

Psalm 91:11 “for he will give his angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.”

All over the Bible are examples of angels protecting God’s people from harm

Perhaps one of the best known examples

Story of Daniel in the lions den (Daniel 6)

III. Angels Are Present When Believers Die

Luke 16:22 “The time came when Lazarus died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side”

    Hebrews 11:35

IV. Angels Lead The Worship Service In Heaven

Psalm 148:2 “Praise him, all his angels, praise him all his heavenly hosts.”

Heavenly hosts – a word to describe angelic armies – military word

“Millions of spiritual creatures walk the earth unseen, both when we sleep and when we are awake” ~ John Milton
Psalm 91 contains a powerful promise for the believer of God
“For God will command his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. The angels hands will bear you up, so that you do not strike your foot against a stone.” Vs 11-12
John 14:3 “I will come again, and take you to myself, that where I am you may be also”

How To Develop An Attitude of Thankfulness

    Colossians 3: 15-17

Vs 12 “we are chosen by God for this kind of behavior, attitudes”

Compassion – means to feel with, empathy, sympathy with those who are hurting.
    Opposite is being hard-hearted

II. We Are To Be Kind

Kindness- means grace in action. Kindness moves from the heart out to the hands
Doing something motivated out of love for God to help others

III. We Are To Be Humble

Humility – often used to describe one who bows down before others
One who thinks of others before thinking of oneself
Not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less
“Humble yourself before the Lord and He will lift us up”

IV. We Are To Be Have Quiet Strength

Quiet strength – humble, to display strength under control. Meekness
Willing to suffer injury instead of inflicting it

    V. We Are To Have Discipline
Discipline- means to have patience. This word does not mean waiting on something
Means long suffering, the opposite of short tempered.
“When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.” ~ 1 Peter 2:23

VI. We Are To Practice Forgiveness
    Vs 13

Bible says, “Bear with one another and forgive whatever grievances you may have
    Against one another”
“God demonstrated his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us” ~ Romans 5:8

VII. We Are To Have Godly Love
    Vs 14

We find God’s definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13 when he tells us
    “love always protects”
    “love is kind”
    “love does not boast”
    “love is not rude”
    “love is patient”
“love keeps no record of wrongs”

VII. We Are To Have An Attitude of Thankfulness

“Let every detail in your lives – words, actions, whatever – be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.”

    I. Worship Is One Way of Expressing Our Love For Jesus

II. Worship Can Only Happen After We have Surrendered To Jesus

III. Worship Is An Act of Sacrifice

“But one of the disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor?  It was worth a year’s wages.  He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.”  ~ John 12: 4-6
