Becoming The Person God Can Use

2 Timothy 2:19-22

“God knows who belongs to him. Spurn evil, all you who name God as God.  In a well-furnished kitchen there are not only crystal goblets and silver platters, but waste cans and compost buckets – some containers used to serve fine meals, others to take out the garbage.  Become the kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to his guests for their blessing.  Run away from infantile indulgence. Run after mature righteousness – faith – love – peace – joining those who are honest and serious prayer before God. Refuse to get involved in inane discussions; they always end up in fights. God’s servant must not be argumentative, but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool, working firmly but patiently with those who refuse to obey.  You never know how or when God might sober them up with a change of heart and a turning to the truth, enabling them to escape the devil’s trap, where they are caught and held captive, forced to run his errands.” 2 Timothy 2: 19-22 (The Message)

vs 21 “Become the kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to his guests for their blessing.”

I. Determine To Be A Vessel of Honors

vs 20 “In a well-furnished kitchen there are not only crystal goblets and silver platters, but waste cans and compost buckets – some containers used to serve fine meals, others to take out the garbage.”

How do I choose to be a vessel of honor?

First of all, you have to run away from dishonorable activities.

Verse 19 “Spurn evil, all you who name God as God.”

Spurn – means to abstain – depart – desist

Evil – means moral wrongfulness

Secondly, to distance  yourself from dishonorable people

Third: Be diligent to study scripture.

vs 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth.

II. When You Do Sin Confess To God Immediately

1 John 1: 8-10 “If we claim that we are free of sin, we are only fooling ourselves. A claim like that is errant nonsense. On the other hand, if we admit our sins – make a clean breast of them – he won’t let us down; he will be true to himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrong doing. If we claim that we have never sinned, we out-and-out contradict God – make a liar out of him. A claim like that only shows off our ignorance of God.”

Was Palm Sunday A Tragedy or Triumph?
    John 12:12-19

“On the next day a large crowd who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, ‘Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.’

Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written, coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.  These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things to Him.

So the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him.  For this reason also the people went and met Him, because they heard that He had performed this sign.  So the Pharisees said to one another, ‘You see that you are not doing any good: look, the world has gone after Him.” ~ John 12:12-19

    I. The Chief Priests and the Pharisees

We find in Matthew 26:3-4 “then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priests, whose name was Caiaphas, and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and to kill him”

Caiaphas is recorded in John 11 of saying, “it is better for one to die than for the whole Nation to perish. So from that day, they plotted to take the life of Jesus.”

II. Ordinary Jewish Worshippers of the Law

III. You and I Also Put Jesus Christ on The Cross

Isaiah 53:5-6 “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

“For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son that whosoever might believe in Him might not perish but have everlasting life.” ~John 3:16

“when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son” ~ Romans 5:10

“the lamb of God was slain from the creation of the world” ~ Revelation 13:8

What Have We Learned In 2020?
    James 1:2-8

“Consider it a gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows it true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well developed, no deficient in any way. If you do not know what you are doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You will get its help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who worry their prayers are like wind whipped waves. Don’t think you are going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.” (James 1: 1-8 The Message)

Do You Want A Life of Good Health?
    John 5: 1-16

“After this, a Jewish festival took place, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. By the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem there is a pool, called Bethesda in Aramaic, which has five colonnades. Within these lay a large number of the disabled – blind, lame and paralyzed. One man was there who had been disabled for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and realized he had already been there a long time, he said to him, Do you want to get well? Sir, the disabled man answered, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, someone goes down ahead of me. Get up, Jesus told him, pick up your man and walk. Instantly the man got well, picked up his mat and started to walk. Now that day was the Sabbath, and so the Jews said to the man who had been healed, This is the Sabbath. The law prohibits you from picking up your mat. He replied, the man who made me well told me, pick up your mat and walk. Who is this man who told you, pick up your mat and walk? They asked. But the man who was healed did not know who he was, because Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there. After this, Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, See you are well. Do not sin anymore, so that something worse doesn’t happen to you. The man went and reported to the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. Therefore, the Jews began persecuting Jesus because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.” ~ John 5: 1-16 (NASV)

    I. Admit You Have A Problem

“So Jesus said, Because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth. For you say, I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing, and you don’t realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.” ~ Revelation 3:16-17 (CSB)

Romans 7:18 “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.”

II. Determine You Will Be Obedient
“Now without faith it is impossible to please God, since the one who draws near to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek Him.” ~ Hebrews 11:6 (CSB)

III. Determine You Will Trust God

The writer of Proverbs wisely said, “Trust in the Lord with your whole heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.” ~ Proverbs 3:5-6 (CSB)

    IV.  Share Your Faith
