What Is The Role Of The Church In 2017?
11 Timothy 3:1-13 “Timothy, God hasn't given you a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. You have to remember who you are and whose you are.'' 2 Timothy 3: ''But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power, and avoid such men as these.'' Last days – in Scripture this is the gap between the 1st coming of our Lord and his 2nd coming. vS 13, ''But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.'' I. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge''. fear of God says that you recognize that God is God and you're not God. vs 2 ''...difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self... Psalm 36: 1, ''Sin whispers to the wicked deep within their hearts; they have no fear of God at all.'' Evil men and impostors will increase and they'll go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.'' III. God Expects Believers To Be Good Soldiers 11 Timothy 2:3 “Suffer Hardship with me, as a good solider of Jesus Christ. ''Your citizenship is in heaven! You're not citizens of this earth. You're strangers and aliens." vs 10: ''But, Timothy, you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance, persecutions and sufferings such as happened to me at Antioch and Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured; and out of them all the Lord delivered me. Ephesians 4:11-12 Ephesians 4: vs 1 “This is what I want you to do……I want you to get out there and don’t walk – better yet, run! On the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. You do this with humility and discipline and not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences.” I. The One Who Gives the Spiritual Gifts II. The PEOPLE Who Discover & Use The Gifts Vs11-12 “He handed out gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, and pastor-teacher, to train Christ’s followers in skilled servant work, working within Christ’s body, the church, until we are all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God’s son, fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ.” Pastor – means shepherd Elder –Bishop – Pastor all 3 basically refer to the same office III. Are You Ready For The Believers Performance Evaluation?
2 Corinthians 5:11-21 vs 11, ''Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest to God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences. We are not again commending ourselves to you, but are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, that you will have an answer for those who take pride in appearance and not in heart.'' Vs 13 - 21 ''For if we are beside ourselves (if we act crazy), it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you. For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died. And He died for all, so that they who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. Therefore, from now on we recognize no man according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us, we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.'' First step: You can live and fear of the Lord. vs 10 that we must all appear. appear means ''to be revealed.'' Nothing will be hidden from the Lord. Proverbs 23:17 ''Do not let your heart envy sinners, but live in the fear of the LORD always.'' vs 10, we must all appear. appear -''to render apparent, to be revealed, to be exposed. Proverbs ''The fear of man brings a snare, but he who trusts in the LORD will be exalted.'' vs 12, ''We are not again commending ourselves to you, but are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, that you may have an answer for those who take pride in appearance and not in heart.'' Ecclesiastes 12:13 - 14, ''The conclusion, when all has been heard, is fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For the LORD will bring every act to judgment, everything that is hidden, whether it is good or evil.'' Psalms, ''Come, you children, and listen to Me, and I will teach you the fear of the LORD.'' Second step: You can live in the love of the Lord. Vs 14, ''For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all; therefore, all died. And He died for all, that they who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.'' The love of Christ controls us. controls ''to hold us.'' ''to press us in.'' Step 3: You can live in the mission of the Lord. vs 18. ''Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.''

    The Father’s House

    John 14:1-6; Revelation 21

(John 14:1), "'Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.' Thomas said to Him, 'Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?' Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"

Revelation 21:1 John is writing. "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

verse 15 "The Angel speaking with me had a gold measuring stick to measure the City, its gates, and its wall. The City was laid out in a perfect square. He measured the city with the measuring stick, 1,500 square miles, length, width, and height all equal. The wall was jasper, the color of glory, and the city was pure gold, translucent as glass.”

“I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its Lamp……Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

    I. Heaven Is A Prepared Place

Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place.”

"I am preparing a place for those that I love."

Revelation 21:27 "Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life."

An amazing statistic is that 75% of Americans think that they can get to heaven because of their actions.

But the Bible never says that. “Not by works lest any should boast”

"There is no saving work unless there is a changed life."

There are some words that are not going to be in heaven:

Nouns that will not be in heaven: Death, stain, sorrow, revenge, hatred, rivalry, sickness, wrong, war, anger, hurt, pretense, hypocrisy, perversion, compromise, blame, peril, danger, opinion, treason, crime, shame and embarrassment.

Verbs that will not be in heaven: compete, subdue, annoyed, bothered, pretend, disturb, disagree, quarrel, fight, criticize, belittle, and scorn-not in heaven.

Adjectives: separate, dirty, cheap, repulsive, arrogant, ugly, wounded, persnickety, tired, and bored - not in heaven

II. Heaven Is A Protected Place

Revelation 21:25 "On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there."

"In heaven there are going to be walls, but the gates are open."

III. Heaven Is A Place Of Great Beauty

Revelation 21:3 says "And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God."
