How To Allow God To Bring You Through Tough Times
    Philippians 1:12-26

    I. Learn To Face Pain

“Now I want you to know, brothers, that what happened to me has really served to advance the gospel”

11 Corinthians 12: 10 “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

take pleasure - mean to have the right attitude

“because of my chains, all the palace guard, the praetorian, is hearing about Jesus Christ”

    Praetorian- 10,000 special, elite soldiers

II. Learn To Release Christians Who Are Mean

“It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached, and because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice.” ~ Philippians 1:15-18

    Genesis 50:20
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

All Christians Have The Same POWER Jesus Had While On Earth
    Luke 6:12-19

Luke 5:17 ''On one of those days, as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the POWER of the Lord was with him to heal.''

Luke 8:43-46 ''... a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. She came up behind (Jesus) and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. And Jesus said, 'Who was it that touched me?' When all denied it, Peter said, 'Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!' But Jesus said, ''Someone touched me, for I perceive that POWER has gone out from me.'''

The Gospel of Mark 5:30 tells the story of the healing of this woman and says it a little differently: ''Jesus, perceiving in himself that POWER had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, 'Who touched my garments?''

    I. The Power Of Jesus To Change Lives ''...(there was) a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.''

II. The Power We Need In Our Lives Only Comes From Jesus

''... power was coming from him and healing them all.'' Luke 6:19
Mark 5:30 ''... POWER had gone out from him''

''... if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.'' Romans 8:11

III. Until You Discipline Yourself To Praying About Everything Your Power Will Be Out

Is The Bible The Inspired Word Of God?
    Luke 1:1-4

ONE OF LIFE’S MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS
    I. Is The Bible Really True?

More than 300 Old Testament scriptures have already been fulfilled in the New Testament.

33 Old Testament prophecies about Jesus were clearly fulfilled in His life.
II. The Primary Stories Of This Book Are About Jesus

“How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” ~ Luke 24:25-27

I challenge you to read the Bible hear THE Creator's voice speaking in and through the pages of the Bible.

I ask you to look at the Jesus of the Bible. Look at Him here. Don't close your eyes and hope for a word of confirmation. Keep your eyes open and fill them with the full portrait of Jesus provided in the Bible.

Have You Ever Wanted To Go From Thanksgiving To New Years?
    Matthew 18:10-14

“See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nice on the hills and go look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.” ~Matthew 18:10-14

    I. God Loves Everyone, So We Should Not Look Down On Anyone
Hebrews 1:14 “Angels are ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation.”

II. Jesus Is The Shepherd Who Rescues One Lamb Who Left

Luke 15 “joy in the presence of angels over one sinner who repents.”
III. The Shepherd Loves His Flock of Sheep

But If One Wanders The Shepherd is Going After Them

“And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off.”

    1 Thessalonians 3:1-13

    I.  ARE YOU AN ENCOURAGER?
“So when we could stand it no longer, we thought it would be best to be left by ourselves in Athens. We send Timothy, who is our brother and God’s fellow worker is spreading the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, so that no one would be unsettled by these trails. You know quite well that we were destined for them. In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be persecuted. As it turned out that way, as you well know. For this reason, when I could stand it no longer, I sent to find our about your faith. I was afraid that is some way the tempter might have tempted you and out efforts might have been useless. Bu Timothy has just now come to us from you and has brought good news about your faith & love. He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we long to see you. Therefore, brothers, in all our distress and persecution we were encouraged about you because of your faith. For now we really life, since you are standing firm in the Lord. How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you? Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you again and supply what is lacking in your faith.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 3:1-10

    Encourage-means to give others courage
Never Allow The Negative Thought Of Giving Up To Enter Your Mind

“We sent Timothy……to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith……so that no one would be disturbed by these afflictions.” - vs 2-3 Encourage- Greek word here translated means to come along beside someone and speak to them.

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” ~John 16:33

II. Let People Know When You Are Thankful For Them

III. When You Tell Someone You Are Praying For Them Pause And Pray
“ night and day we keep praying for you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you.” ~vs 10

Encouragement is like a boomerang. It always comes back!

God Has A Plan For Your Life
*Never give up! Rather choose to live in hope* Genesis 37:5-11, -44, 39:1-23

''For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus FOR GOOD WORKS, which GOD PREPARED BEFOREHAND, that we should walk in them.''

Jeremiah 29:11 ''I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.''

Joseph and his dreams introduced in chapter 37.

That means that the last 13 chapters of Genesis (1/4 of the book) were dedicated to Joseph's life.
It was because of Joseph that his family moved down to Egypt.

It was because of Joseph that they were given an isolated section of Egypt to live in.

It was by God's design that Israel was placed in land of Goshen

It was an isolated and out of the way location for Israel to raise their flocks and herds.

It was as if God placed them safely behind the walls of Egypt's power.

It was a place where no other nation could attack them, a place where no other government or religion could influence them.

Israel was even isolated from the influence of Egypt itself because Egyptians were vegetarians and the despised the Israelites because they ate meat. (Genesis 46:34)

There are people out there who are called ''prosperity preachers.''
Prosperity preachers teach their followers - if you are spiritual enough - God will supply all your needs and you will become healthy, wealthy and wise beyond all imagination.

The flip side of that teaching is that if you are not spiritual enough, you will be sickly, poor and not too bright.
Prosperity preachers are heretics. They are false teachers.
''...we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame...'' Romans 5:3-5

''... whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.'' ~ Romans 15:4
And it was in that secluded and protected land God grew the people of Israel into a mighty nation with a potential army of over million who would then be powerful enough to take the Promised Land.

The Beauty Of Unity and Generosity
    Acts 2:42-47

“They devoted themselves to the Apostles teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved”

I,. Protect The Unity of The Church

“How good and pleasant it is when the church dwells together in unity” Psalm 133

The night before Jesus was crucified He prayed specifically in John 17 “I don’t pray for these disciples alone, but for everyone who will believe because of their testimony”. He is talking to believers

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Holy Spirit through the bond of peace” - Ephesians 4:3

Keep - a word picture of a Roman solider on sentry duty and guarding something valuable.

II. We are to share our financial blessings

Note the members of the church were “selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone who had a need”

2 Corinthians 9:7 “God loves a cheerful giver”

Cheerful - translated into the language of today is “hilarious”

God speaks to that “You may say to yourself, ‘ my power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” ~ Deuteronomy 8:17

“The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it” ~Psalm 24:1

Give and it shall be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with measure you use, it will be measured to you. ~ Luke 6:38

“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops, then your barns will be filled to overflowing and your vats will brim over with new wine.” ~ Proverbs 3:9-10
