    Lessons Taught On Palm Sunday
    Luke 19:28-44

The sun was rising rapidly. It was beginning to shoot its golden arrows across the horizon to gild the sky and curtain off the dawn that would bring a new day to the history filled city of Jerusalem. This is the festive season of Passover. The old city was filled with pilgrims, visitors, and travelers who had come from many countries to share in the feast. Secular census records indicate there were at least 2 million, 5 hundred thousand in Jerusalem for this event.

EXCITING RUMOR WAS RAMPANT IN THE CITY JESUS IS COMING

Behind him were his sermons; ahead, His suffering
Behind him were his parables; ahead, His passion
Behind him were His suppers of fellowship; ahead, His last supper of betrayal.
Behind him were His suppers of fellowship; ahead, dark Gethsemane

Upon entering Jerusalem Jesus went immediately to the Temple are & drove out the dishonest merchants who were price gouging the Pilgrims who had come to Passover.

How To Know When To Get Out Of The Boat
    Matthew 14:22-23

'' immediately He made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side while He sent the crowds away. And after He had sent the crowds away, He went up to the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone. But the boat was already long distance away from the land, battered by the waves; for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were frightened, saying, ''It is a ghost!'' They cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ''Take courage; it is I; do not be afraid''!

Peter answered, ''Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water''. And He said,''Come!''
Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But seeing the wind, he became afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, ''Lord, save me!'' Immediately, Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him and said to him, ''O you of little faith, why did you doubt?'' And when they got into the boat, the wind stopped. And those who were in the boat worshipped Him, saying, ''You are certainly God's Son!''

The Enemy Attacks God and His Children

Matthew 4:1 ''Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him....''

THE TEMPTATION OF JESUS TEACHES US

    I. Temptation Comes After Victory

1 Peter 5: 8, ''Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour.''

Proverbs 3:5-6 ''Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.''

II. The Enemy Is Always Looking For A Way To Tempt Us

vs 5 ''Then the devil took Him into the holy city and he had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple. And he said to Him, If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, He will give His angels charge concerning You and on their hands they will bear You up, lest you strike Your foot against a stone. And Jesus said to him, On the other hand, it is written, You shall not put the LORD your God to the test.''

III. Devil Wants To Tempt Us To Compromise God’s Plan

    Why Is Baptism Important?
    Matthew 3:13-17

Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John (John the Baptist) to be baptized by him. But John tried to prevent Him, saying, I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me? But Jesus answered and said to him Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he permitted Him. And after being baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon Him. And, behold, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.

    I. The Baptism of Jesus

Isaiah 40 “I am the one, the voice of the one crying in the wilderness. Make ready the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.”

1 Peter 2:22 He had no sin, nor was there any deceit in His mouth.

I have need to be baptized by You, and You come to me? But Jesus answered and said to him Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he permitted Him. ~ John 14

11 Corinthians 5:21, God made Jesus, who knew no sin, to be sin on our behalf...

II. Why Are We Baptized Today?

Ephesians 1, In Him also you, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation, having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise.

    The Church That Pleases God
    Luke 7:36-8:2

Three distinguishing marks of a church that is pleasing to God:

First mark: It is a church filled with love

1st John 4:7-8 "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God. And everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love."

    Second Mark: Sinners are wanted

Matthew 11 " Come to me all who are weary or heavy-laden and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your souls, for My yoke is easy, and my load is light. Come to Me."

    Third Mark:
    Church that teaches/practices HOPE

Romans 15:13: "Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Vs 39 When she was weeping and wiping Jesus' feet with her tears and her hair and anointing His feet, and she was touching Him, well, you didn't let a woman like that touch you. And Simon said this: "If this man were a prophet, He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him that she's a sinner. Hey, aren't prophets supposed to tell us things we don't know? This guy doesn't even know things that everyone knows, that this woman is a sinner. She's immoral. She's a prostitute. Don't let her touch You. This guy doesn't know anything."

    I. You Will Learn To Trust

II. Learn To Trust in God

“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you may say to this mulberry tree, be uprooted and planted in the sea, and it will obey you.” ~ Luke 17:6-7

III. God Expects Our Complete Surrender To Him

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with your whole heart” ~ Jeremiah 29:13

    What God Teaches About Finances
    Proverbs 3:9-10; Proverbs 22:7

    Facts About Financial Planning
You will be interested in knowing some startling things about financial planning:

2% of the American population will have enough to live on at the age of 65, if they retire.
45% will be dependent upon family members to help them after age of 65.
30% will be dependent upon charity.
23% will have to keep on working.

Ecclesiastes 2:4. Solomon is speaking, ''I undertook great projects: I built houses for myself and planted vineyards. I made gardens and parks and planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. I made reservoirs to water groves of flourishing trees. I bought male and female slaves and had other slaves who were born in my house. I also owned more herds and flocks than anyone in Jerusalem before me. I amassed silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and provinces. I acquired men and women singers, and a harem as well--the delights of the heart of man. I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me. In all this my wisdom stayed with me. I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labor.

Proverbs 3:9 ''Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.''

    I. Discipline Yourself To Share

''You can not ultimately keep what is given to you to use for awhile.'' Ecclesiastes 5:13-15, ''I have seen a grievous evil under the sun: wealth hoarded to the harm of its owner, or wealth lost through some misfortune, so that when he has a son there is nothing left for him. Naked a man comes from his mother's womb, and as he comes so he departs. He takes nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand.''

Proverbs 28:27 ''He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.''

II. Wealth Does Not Make You Happy

Ecclesiastes 5:10, ''Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless.''

III. Scripture Teaches Us To Work For Our Wealth

Proverbs 21:20 ''In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has.''

IV. We Are To Send Investments Ahead
2 Corinthians 8:5: ''And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will.''

Matthew 6:20 ''. . . Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.''
