How To Be Positive In A Crazy World

    2 Corinthians 5: 9-15 (#16)

    I. Believers Will Face A Major Test One Day

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. ~ 2 Cor. 5:10

Vs 11 “Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest to God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences. We are not commending ourselves to you, but we are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, that you will have an answer for those who take pride in appearance and not in heart.”

II. Prepare Yourself For The Test

“we must all appear” (TO BE EXPOSED)

Truth – is not frightened of God

Rather with deep respect – reverence – awe

    GOD OF THE UNIVERSE

    Standing Before The Judge
    2 Corinthians 5: 9-10 (#15)

“Remember, there is only one foundation, the one already laid; Jesus Christ. Take particular care in picking out your building materials. Eventually there is going to be an inspection. If you use cheap or inferior materials, you will be found out. The inspection will be thorough and rigorous. You won’t get by with a thing. If you work passes inspection, fine; if it doesn’t your part of the building will be torn out and started over.”
    1 Corinthians 3:10-15 (The Message)

“Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”
    2 Corinthians 5: 9-10 (NASV)

Romans 8: 1 “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

“each ones work will be evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of our work”
    1 Corinthians 3:13

IF WHAT WE HAVE DONE SURVIVES THE FIRE OF JUDGMENT FROM JESUS CHRIST

III. What Will Be Our Response?

    5 different crowns in scripture:

    Crown of rejoicing
    Crown of glory
    Crown for a victor

    Eugene Peterson

“Eventually there is going to be an inspection. If you use cheap or inferior materials, you will be found out. The inspection will be thorough and rigorous. You won’t get by with a thing. Jesus said, “Abide in Me, because apart from Me you can do nothing.”

    How Big Is God?

    2 Corinthians 4:13-15 (#12)

    11 Corinthians 4:7-12 (#11)

    I. God Allows His Pots To be Cracked

Paul lists 3 possible pressures for cracking:

    1. Personal pressure
“we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed”

afflicted- means to be confined on every side

“we are afflicted in every way but not crushed”

Afflicted – secondary meaning to be ruined in business & left with nothing

“though he slay me, yet will I hope in him” ~ Job 13:15

    2. Personal persecution Paul wrote, “persecuted, but not forsaken”

Persecution- here refers to the practice of hunters tracking down an animal.

PRIME MINISTER OF ENGLAND SIR, WINSTON CHURCHILL had the words on his desk; ‘if I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might well be closed for any other business. I do the very best I know how – the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right what’s said against me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, 10 angels swearing I was right would make no difference.”

    3. Personal failure “struck down but not destroyed”

Struck down - came for the gladiatorial games when a fighter had been pinned by his opponent waiting for the thumbs up or thumbs down signal.

II. God Has A Purpose In Your Plan

“we were under just great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure…this happened that we might not rely upon ourselves but on God…..” 2 Corinthians 1:8-9

God Can Still Use Broken Clay Pots

    11 Corinthians 4:6-7
    #10 in series

    I. Believers Are Like Clay Jars

Jars of clay – literally means earthenware. Describes ordinary, plain pots

“We are the clay, you are the Potter. We are all the work of your hand.” ~ Isaiah 64:8

Earthenvessels - created to contain something, not to be a design unto themselves

II. Christianity Is Containing Not Imitating Jesus

III. God Delights In Using Imperfect Vessels

“Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world, the despised things – and the things that are not – to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.”
    ~ 1 Corinthians 1:26-29

“If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That is to prevent anyone from confusing God’s incomparable power with us.”
    ~ 2 Corinthians 4:7 - Message

    How To Deal With Discouragement

    2 Corinthians 4:1-6

    I. Remember God’s Unconditional Love And Refuse To Give Up

4:1 ''Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we received mercy, we do not lose heart,”

''There is, therefore, now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” ~ Romans 8:1

SATAN IS ROAMING THE WORLD LIKE A ROARING LION TRYING TO SCARE AND INTIMIDATE PEOPLE

''For I am confident of this very thing,'' Paul said, ''that He who began a good work in me will continue it and complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.''

II. Live With Jesus Christ As Your Mentor

verse 5, ''For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus' sake.''

''If any man thinks he's something when he's nothing, he deceives himself.''

verse 5 ''we are bond-servants for Jesus' sake.''

    bond-servant- the lowest slave

III. Remember It Is Jesus Who Uses Clay Vessels

verse 7, ''But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing greatness of the power may be of God and not from ourselves.''

VS 6 “he made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”

Are You Willing To Invite God To Change Your Life, Your Attitudes And Your Behavior?

    Series: 2 Corinthians #8
    2 Corinthians 3: 7-18

DISCIPLES – ONE WHO FOLLOWS AND IMITATES JESUS

CHRISTIAN – ONE WHO HOLDS CERTAIN BELIEFS MAY BECOME VERY DEFENSIVE IN STATING BELIEFS BUT IS NOT A DISCIPLE

    DISCIPLE IS ALWAYS A CHRISTIAN

CHRISTIAN IS NOT ALWAYS A DISCIPLE

    I. Salvation by Grace Through Faith Results In Our Lives Being Transformed

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice – the kind he will find acceptable. That is truly the way to worship him.” ~ Romans 12:1

‘Do not be conformed any longer to the patter of this world, but be transformed…..”

Conform – from which we get our word scheme

"Don’t let the world squeeze you into its mold” ~ J.B. Philips

II. The Grace Of New Testament Replace Laws Of The Old Testament

He says, ''For if the ministry of condemnation has glory, how much more does the ministry of righteousness, abound in glory?''
